What is the Lazer EcoLoc and why is it sustainable?
The Lazer Ecoloc stems from a growing realization that Lazer products have a significant impact on the environment. This is diametrically opposed to the motivations of cyclists, who, by taking the bike, reduce their carbon footprint.
Lazer set themselves two goals. First, to understand how to minimize the environmental impact of a helmet without compromising standard safety requirements. Second, to find a way to recycle bicycle helmets. This challenge resulted in the development of the Lazer EcoLoc. A new innovative way of helmet design that enables the user to disassemble the helmet at the end of its lifecycle.
After years of development efforts, the EcoLoc was first introduced beginning of 2024, integrated in the Lazer Verde KinetiCore. An urban helmet that next to safety and comfort, puts sustainability on its list of priorities.
This first introduction was a statement of intent for Lazer toward more sustainable product development, manufacturing and better end-of-life strategies. The eco-design strategies we learned and the now patented EcoLoc is re-implemented in numerous other Lazer helmets. A different look but same concept of the EcoLoc can be seen in Maze KinetiCore. Take a look here.
A deeper look at traditional helmets helps understand the functionality of the Lazer EcoLoc. A traditional cycling helmet is made up of different materials and components, all glued together to form one final product. Perfectly fine to protect you during its lifetime. However, this fine helmet comes to a point where it needs to be replaced. When throwing away the helmet, different components cannot be separated and is thrown away with no way to recycle.
A helmet with Lazer EcoLoc does things differently. The Lazer EcoLoc forms a mechanical connection between the different components eliminating the need for glue. Interlocking components now make up one safe and comfortable helmet ready to protect you during its lifetime. When its lifecycle has come to an end the EcoLoc, visible by the logo and colour, can be removed. This allows for all components to detach, enabling the user to easily recycle the mono-material disassembled parts. To encourage correct recycling the different materials are marked giving people the information needed to sort everything in the correct bins.

Since its introduction in the Lazer product range the EcoLoc has resulted in numerous award nominations and wins.
